The Douro wine region takes its name from the Douro River. Terraced vineyards line the steep, rugged riverbanks. Quinta da Foz is located in the Cima Corgo subregion in the center of the Douro Valley. The Calém family acquired it in 1872, and today Filipe Ferreira heads the winemaking. This is a small property whose grapevines average age is around 80 years old. All wines are hand-harvested and are foot pressed in large granite lagares. This is truly authentic wine of the Douro! Traditional local grapes are blended together which has aromatic intensity, sophisticated delicacy and refined structure and elegance. Fresh red fruits on the nose persist through the palate; a young, energetic wine with well-integrated tannins and a lovely, long finish.
